Jay-Z’s former apartment is on the market for $1.4 million, according to The Post. The “560 State Street” one he mentions in the song “Empire State of Mind,” featuring Alicia Keys. You know the lyrics, “560 State Street…Catch me in the kitchen like a Simmons with them pastries.” That one that went three times platinum and stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks. Anyway, both performers own oceanside mansions in California with their spouses now. It’s inspiring but still wild to hear Jay-Z once thought that the Brooklyn apartment was it, he’d “made it.”

The 53-year-old rapper turned billionaire capitalist lived there from 1996 to 1997. That would make him around 26 years old at the time. But Boerum Hill has been a desirable New York City neighborhood for some time now. It is known for its 19th-century rowhouses that are rich with Brooklyn history. Today, many prefer it for its quiet living and convenient subway and railroad access. Atlantic Terminal and Center are two shopping malls across from Barclay’s Center. It is an indoor arena also across the street from 560 State Street. Jay-Z amassed some of his Warren Buffet-like returns through business ventures there. Like, an ownership stake in the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets or one of his 40/40 Clubs, a chain of luxury sports bars and lounges.

560 State Street, apartment 3B, is a “sun-filled duplex with two bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms.” The 1,000 square foot unit appears on the Corcoran Group’s website as available to rent. Its features include a stainless steel appliance kitchen with a center island.

The second bedroom than can also serve as a den or an office.

There is access to a 6,000-square-foot shared courtyard included, as well. It offers an outdoor kitchen with sinks, a refrigerator, and a gas-fired barbecue pit. Gas lamps provide area-lighting in nighttime settings.
